Priority One programs are intended for youth who have attended Juvenile Justice or Court. The programs are aimed at stopping young people from re-offending.
Priority One Programs being run at Rockingham PCYC include:
One to One Mentoring Targets young offenders between ages of 10-18 by providing a qualified mentor. The mentor’s task is to:
- Prevent the young person from re-offending.
- Reengage the young person into school or training.
- Assist in locating suitable employment (where applicable).
This program has proved successful as mentors liaise with government and non-government agencies in delivering outcomes. <top>
Truancy Patrol Targets truants to establish reasons for non- attendance at school. A cooperative approach to the issues involved is used by co-ordination between schools and parents.
A personal plan is then developed to encourage attendance. Research shows up to 10% truancy rates at local high schools; truancy related problems may involve up to 300 young people in the area. <top>
