Weld to Life - Rockingham PCYC

The Weld to Life Program is an intervention program weld_to_life_lo_res.jpgfocusing on young people who have committed an offence or are at risk of offending.  Its aim is to reduce offending behaviour in the Rockingham/Kwinana area through engaging young people in an intensive work-ready training program that offers participants the chance to learn technical skills in a hands-on environment.  Many participants are being referred to Rockingham PCYC and the Weld to Life program through the Juvenile Justice system.

Participants graduate with a certificate 1 in Metals and Engineering, certificate 1 in Wider Opportunities for Work (WOW) and a Senior First Aid certificate.   Weld to Life partner organisations are BHP Billiton Nickel West Kwinana Refinery and Challenger Institute of Technology.

In 2009, this unique program received national recognition at the Australian Crime and Violence Prevention Awards presented at Parliament House in Canberra.

Since inception the program has had in excess of 200 enrolees and has produced an 83 % reduction in offending behaviour amongst the participants.
