On Wednesday 1st February, Subiaco PCYC held a Barista training workshop as part of its Upskill program, which was facilitated by Subiaco coffee institution Café Café. The Upskill program is delivered in partnership with the City of Subiaco and provides skills development opportunities for young people aged 12 to 25. Other training workshops have included resume writing, pasta making, car safety and maintenance and songwriting.
Subiaco PCYC Centre Manager Glenn Meiners said that the barista workshop was attended by 11 young people from the Subiaco area, many of whom were job seekers.
“There was a great turnout for this session, with the young people saying that the experience they got from the workshop will help with their job search in the hospitality industry. With the job market the way it is, having a certificate of participation on their resume will assist these young people in standing out from the crown and proving to employers that they are committed and willing to learn.”
Glenn also said that clean-up was a breeze:
“Some young people enjoyed the night so much that they stayed back after the session finished to help clean up! This helped them understand the clean-up process for the machine, which further adds to their skills.”
The next Upskill program will be held on Wednesday 29th March 2017 and will be focused on resume writing, to help give you an edge on your next job application. Register now, or contact Subiaco PCYC for more details on (08) 9388 2053 or subiacopcyc@wapcyc.com.au.
