On Saturday 18th February over 60 young people descended on the Subiaco Skate Park to shred up a storm or watch at the Unleashed Skateboarding Competition. Unleashed is a free event for local young people and featured industry-leading brand prizes, a free BBQ dinner and a huge, excited crowd! The event is run under the Sk8 4 Life program, which is a partnership between Subiaco PCYC, the City of Subiaco and Skateboarding WA.
Subiaco PCYC Centre Manager, Glenn Meiners, said that 2017 was the first time that the PCYC had coordinated the event after forging a partnership with the City of Subiaco.
“Previously the comp was held in the afternoon, but this year’s event was held into the evening. The change bought more participants than ever before, with more spectators attending to watch the competition as well. There was such a great atmosphere at the Skate Park, and the participants skated hard all night and pushed each other to land their tricks well.”
Glenn continued, “The feedback from the attendees was that this is the best competition they have been to or competed in. It was a fantastic night and we’re looking forward to holding more Sk8 4 Life events soon.”
Skateboarding workshops are regularly held at the Subiaco Skate Park, which is conveniently located right behind Subiaco PCYC along Thomas Road, Subiaco. To be notified of the next FREE workshop date, make sure to follow Subiaco PCYC on Facebook.
