Funding keeps Roebourne PCYC Safe Space program alive

The Department of Communities have committed funding to continue the Roebourne Police and Community Youth Centres (PCYC) Friday Night Safe Space program which includes the Nightfields program, delivered in collaboration with WA Football Commission and the WA Police Force.

Roebourne PCYC Friday Night Safe Space will run from 6:00pm – 9:00pm during a time where there is a known service gap for the young people of Roebourne.  This initiative provides a safe place for local young people to hang out, in a supervised environment whilst engaging in life skills workshops, and provides youth with access to youth workers and support agencies. Youth are also provided with a nutritious meal and transport home.

The program aims to improve the physical health of young people in Roebourne through the provision of basic first aid and by supplying a nutritional meal. The program also aims to improve the social and mental health of young people by improving their personal skills and knowledge in areas such as personal hygiene and safety, sexual health and alcohol and drug awareness.

Currently the program attracts from 50 – 90 young people each week, providing a valuable service to the local community and a platform for WA Police Force Officers to positively engage with young people.
