WA PCYC centres in Fremantle, Gosnells, Kensington, Northam and Rockingham each received $10,000 grants as part of the Commonwealth Bank Community Grants program.
13,000 current and retired bank employees donated a portion of their income to the program. Commonwealth Bank contributes up to $2m each year.
This year, Commonwealth Bank donated $10 million to the CommBank Foundation in celebration and recognition of 100 years of employee giving. This donation funded the Centenary Grants.
Fremantle PCYC will be putting the funds towards their Safe Space School Holiday Program to provide local youth with the opportunity to participate in activities in a fun and safe environment.
Gosnells PCYC plans to put the funds towards delivering school holiday programs for youth at risk in the Gosnells catchment, supported by the WA Police.
“Providing our youth with a safe place to hang out and engage in structured activities, keeps them off the streets and out of trouble, and in turn we should see a reduction in crime over those periods”. Gosnells PCYC Centre Manager Julie Cugley explained.
Kensington PCYC will put the grant towards the restoration of the outdoor basketball courts at the centre, and delivery of youth activities such as boxing.
“This would get our youth involved in activities and competitions, keeping them off the streets and out of crime” Daniel Naidoo, Kensington PCYC Centre Support Manager said.
Northam PCYC is interested in putting the funds towards their boxing program, with plans to install a boxing ring along with additional boxing gear and Camoplay equipment.
Rockingham PCYC have invested in an incredible new mural that on their centre car park wall, with help from renowned urban artist Jerome Davenport.
