Kensington PCYC Road Safety Awareness Week

Kensington PCYC hosted the final Driver Education session on Friday 14 December 2018 delivered fortnightly by our Centre based Youth Crime Intervention Officers. The one day educational theory session enables successful participants to obtain their Learners Permit. The sessions are free and extremely popular with most sessions running wait lists for extra spaces.

The session was delivered in conjunction with Road Safety Awareness week and participants not only gained their Certificate but also received a Road Safety pin.

The theme for this year’s campaign is “Drive so others survive.”

Amanda Dow, Kensington PCYC’s Centre Manager says “These sessions are so important for our youth that they learn the fundamental road safety rules from the beginning. Learning to drive is often one of their first biggest steps in becoming independent and for many of our youth not attending main stream schooling where the Keys for Life program is delivered means that many miss out on this vital program.”

We would like to acknowledge the support of our Youth Crime Intervention Officers S/C John Valastro and 1/C Class Constable Manish Meelu with their facilitation of these sessions and look forward to 2019 when we may be able to continue the program for more participants.
