Teenagers safe on the road thanks to PCYC

Sean, Dathan and Cyrus pass their learners test thanks to the PCYC Drive to the Future Program.

In regional towns like Broome, the only way to get to work is by car. So being able to drive is crucial to gaining independence. Unfortunately, getting a licence to drive is an expensive process, often out of reach for many young people.

Luckily, thanks to the PCYC Drive to the Future Program, Sean, Dathan and Cyrus have benefited from weekly lessons to learn about licensing, road rules and safe driving that has allowed them to sit and pass their Learners Permit theory test.

From here, the young boys will go on to complete 100 hours of supervised driving with qualified instructors, PCYC staff and Police Officers, before they take their driving test.

There are currently 20 young people participating in the Broome PCYC Drive to the Future program, which has been running since January 2019, thanks to the Commonwealth’s Safer Communities Fund.
