PCYC, Centrecare and the City of Kalgoorlie Boulder at a movie night in the park.
Kalgoorlie’s school holiday program provided children and young people in the community with a range of fun activities to keep them entertained and active during the long summer holidays.
This free school holiday program solved a challenge many families face during the holidays, finding low cost or free activities to keep the whole family amused. It was great to see all ages being catered for within this program so that every member of the family could be involved.
Youth Police Officers, Xavier Lucas, and Grant George attended as many activities as possible, including a movie night at the park, a family disco and a ‘hoops and jams’ basketball event. It was great to have Officer Lucas and George at these events, providing an opportunity for children and young people to build positive relationships with the Police. For some children, this was their only chance to take part in activities like this.
The feedback from families was exceptional, with one parent stating that programs like this remind her how great regional communities are. Families were grateful for the collaboration between The City of Kalgoorlie Boulder, Centrecare and PCYC who all came together to make the movie night happen. The City Council provided the movie and screen, as well as a range of games, bean bags and a free ice cream truck, Centrecare provided a delicious free BBQ, while PCYC provided a popcorn machine, face painting, more bean bags and fun yard games.
There was definitely something for everyone, leaving a strong sense of community spirit among those who attended.
