Capturing confidence in Carnarvon

Published: March 23, 2021 3:19pm

When local Youth Justice Officer, Bre Greenup heard that participants of PCYC’s safeSPACE had been working on building their self-confidence she decided to donate some dresses for the girls to wear. Many of these girls don’t have a big choice of clothes and shoes to wear, so this was an exciting moment that Centre Manager, Bree Maher, knew would be a special moment to capture.

Some of the girls were hesitant about taking part in a photoshoot, but Bree reached out to a local photographer who she knew would work well with the girls to bring out their confidence and create beautiful photos they could keep and be proud of.

As soon as the girls saw the dresses they immediately began trying them on, discussing which ones they felt best in and what type of photos they would like to take.

Shooting Stars attended the photoshoot (a local like-minded program that empowers young Aboriginal girls and women) showing their support by giving words of encouragement and compliments to the girls.

Bree said, “The experience has helped these young girls to come out of their shell. It was great to see them feel good about themselves and be confident enough to have fun taking photos.”
