PCYC kids take their first flight

Published: May 27, 2021 10:42am

Roebourne PCYC children were offered a once in a lifetime opportunity when they were taken on a helicopter ride overlooking their hometown. Helispirit offered free helicopter rides to PCYC children who attended Roebourne’s Youth Week ‘Roeparty’ in partnership with the City of Karratha and Yaandina. For many, this was their first time flying and a life changing opportunity.

Circling around the town of Roebourne, children were filled with excitement as they pointed out different buildings and landmarks they recognised, waving at everyone down below.

Being in a helicopter for the first time allowed them to look down on their home town and see it from completely new perspective, a moment many of them will cherish forever.

Youth Week is a time to celebrate young people, so the fun didn’t end there! Local children and young people also participated in games of bubble soccer and 3x3 basketball, ending the day snacking on popcorn while watching a movie on the big screen after sunset.

Natasha Walker, Centre Manager of Roebourne PCYC said, “Thank you to all of the organisations that contributed. It was a fantastic day, full of community spirit and a great way to acknowledge and celebrate the young people in our community.”
