We have an exciting new opportunity for dedicated and experienced Youth Worker to join the team on a Casual basis to assist with the delivery of the Youth and Outreach Services for Kununurra PCYC.
Who we are:
Established in 1941, WA PCYC has seven metropolitan centres and twelve regional centres and a camp, all engaging and developing young people through a balance of intervention, diversion and recreational programs with our key partner, the WA Police Force, and other partners and non-government organisations. In addition, there are more than 20 PCYC Blue Light centres across the state. The organisation also operates fee for service mobile and outreach services. There are approximately 450,000 attendances recorded at PCYC and Blue Light activities and programs each year.
Kununurra PCYC has an exciting opportunity available for a Youth Worker who is enthusiastic and passionate about sport, recreation and youth engagement in challenging environments. This position is designed to provide a safe place for at-risk youth to be and to provide them with help and support to overcome some of the challenges they face in their lives. The primary purpose of this position will be to support at risk youth to be safe and achieve their individual goals and objectives through engaging with and providing assertive and intensive support to the youth, through sports and recreational activities. This position will require you to display a capacity to engage with and empower at-risk youth.
We are looking for a Youth Worker who will:
Plan and assist with the Kununurra PCYC Safe Space Outreach Program
Encourage and facilitate the engagement of participants on our programs and accessing them to other available community services
Build and establish a rapport with our participants and provide appropriate referral when needed
Develop and maintain an awareness of youth issues particularly as they relate to employment, education and training health income support, legal issues, youth subcultures and street behaviour
Availability to support the program on weekends and/or evenings as required
Demonstrated knowledge and experience in working with and engaging with at risk youth
Related experience in coaching sports and/or proof of relevant knowledge
Ability to develop and facilitate social, recreation activity programs which proactively ‘engage’ young people
Competent knowledge of Sports and/or physical education
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Current Senior First Aid Certificate (a willingness to obtain)
Hold or willing to obtain Working with Children’s Check and National Police Clearance
Qualification in Youth Work, Community Services, Sports and Recreation and/or extensive work-related experience
