The Federation of Western Australian Police and Community Youth Centres (Inc.) (WA PCYC) is looking for a dedicated and passionate individual to take up the exciting and challenging Youth Worker role at WA PCYC Collie.

Who We Are: 

Established in 1941, WA PCYC has seven metropolitan centres and twelve regional centres and a camp, all engaging and developing young people through a balance of intervention, diversion and recreational programs with our key partner, the WA Police Force, and other partners and non-government organisations. In addition, there are more than 20 PCYC Blue Light centres across the state. The organisation also operates fee for service mobile and outreach services. There are approximately 450,000 attendances recorded at PCYC and Blue Light activities and programs each year.

Position Profile:

Collie PCYC has exciting opportunities available for casual Youth Workers who are enthusiastic and passionate about their role and working with youth. These positions will be working within the Collie PCYC Safe Space program which is a Drop In style service designed to provide a safe place for at risk youth to be after school hours. The primary purpose of this position will be to support at risk youth to be safe and achieve their individual goals and objectives. The Youth Workers will aim to assist at risk youth by engaging with and providing assertive and intensive support to the youth who may have mental health illnesses or issues; may be homeless, have complex needs and drug/alcohol issues. This position will require you to demonstrate a capacity to engage with and empower at risk youth.

We are looking for Youth Workers who will:
  • Assist in the daily running of programs in the Centre as well as in an Outreach capacity
  • Encourage and facilitate the engagement of participants on our programs and accessing them to other available community services
  • Build and establish a rapport with our participants and provide appropriate referral when needed
  • Assist in the monitoring and development of programs on an ongoing basis.

Selection Criteria:
  • Be available Wednesday from 2.45pm to 5.15pm and Fridays from 2.45pm to 8.15pm
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience working with and engaging at risk youth.
  • Certificate IV in Youth Work or Community Services and/or extensive work related experience
  • Develop and facilitate social, recreation activity programs which proactively ‘engage’ young people in an outreach setting.
  • Competent written and verbal communication
  • Current Senior First Aid Certificate (a willingness to obtain)
  • Working with Children Check (ability to obtain)
  • National Police Clearance (ability to obtain)
  • A valid driving license (a LR license would be a definite advantage)
