Geraldton PCYC hosts a wide range of recreational activities.
safeSPACE, funded by the Department of Industry, Innovation and Science as part of the Safer Communities Fund, provides a safe place for young people at risk aged 6 – 18 years, to hang out and participate in a range of recreational activities and development programs, as an alternative to participating in antisocial behaviour. Sessions run on Thursday evenings from 4:00pm – 9:00pm. The program is supported by a number of local community groups including the WA Police Force.
Boxing Club, funded by the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries, as part of the Targeted Participation Program, provides free boxing sessions after school on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays, for young people at risk. Sessions teach participants the foundations of boxing to improve fitness, strength and agility, encouraging on-going participation in recreational activities, and address topics such as health and nutrition, anti-drugs and alcohol, anger management, self-esteem and mental health.
Drive to the Future, an Australian Government initiative to deliver safer communities through local crime prevention strategies, provides young people and young people at risk, the opportunity to gain their learners permit and obtain a drivers licence. The program aims to help young people increase their self-esteem, sense of responsibility, employ-ability, mental health and well-being and is delivered in partnership with WA Police Force and local Aboriginal Organisations.
Police Rangers is an adventure based, youth development program which, in partnership with Cadets WA, facilitates the commitment of WA Police Force to form positive relationships with young people. Open to young people of high school age, the program increases youth self-confidence, leadership, team building skills and self-esteem. Police Rangers learn new skills, such as first aid, and gain experience by participating in activities and excursions. Contact us for more information.
Geraldton PCYC provides structured activities for young people during school holiday periods, in a safe environment where young people have the opportunity to try new activities. The school holiday programs target local young people aged between 6 – 13 years, and offer a range of fun activities such as cooking, recreational sports, discos, dancing and movies.
Geraldton PCYC offers hall hire facilities for parties, functions meetings and conferences. The centre facilities include a four-star rated kitchen, PA system, tables and chairs and also has a fully equipped and modern gymnasium.
