3on3 Basketball has officially kicked off at Collie PCYC on Friday the 10th of November attracting over 100 local young people. The program is a youth-focused event encouraging active play and leadership in the community. Collie PCYC Manager Linda Gallagher said 3on3 Basketball was a great opportunity for kids to get active as well as engaging with their community by showing their leadership on and off the court. “We have some great young leaders in our Community, and this is the sort of opportunity they are looking to get involved in,” said Ms Gallagher. Collie Senior Sergeant, Heath Soutar was on hand to help set up and see all the kids having a great time. “This is such a great community event to be involved in, and to see some of our disengaged youth here enjoying themselves and participating is a wonderful outcome for the community” he said. The 3on3 pilot program has been driven by local Community stakeholders including the, Collie PCYC, Collie Basketball Association and Mila Foundation with the assistance of Basketball WA to encourage leadership and empowerment of its local youth through sport in the Community. The program is made possible with support from the Collie Community Bank branch of the Bendigo Bank, the Shire of Collie, Mila Foundation, WA Police, Basketball WA and the Collie Chamber of Commerce. Jarrah Calder, Manager for Participation at Basketball WA, said it was great to see the community support shown for this youth event. “The value basketball and sport bring to local regional towns by increases social good is vital in building stronger communities,” said Mr Calder. The program is running for 6 weeks on Fridays - 6-9pm, with 3on3 basketball games and other activities available for participating youth and their families.
