Carnarvon PCYC Hosts Women’s Urban Survival Program

Published: January 08, 2018 12:00am
Carnarvon PCYC had the pleasure of hosting Samurai Karate’s second successful Women’s Urban Survival Program at the centre last year, helping to provide full in-kind support, following an extremely positive repose from the Carnarvon community. A total of 15 women, all from a number of different nationalities, ages and occupations, attended the course to learn simple effective techniques to physically defend themselves should they find themselves in a dangerous situation. The group of women were also taken through practical safety techniques for everyday situations such as travelling on public transport, approaching your car in a car park and simply walking down the street. The program was facilitated by Sensei Paul Mitchell, 8th Dan Hanshi and World Chief Instructor of Samurai Karate International. Sensei Paul has been running free self-defence courses for women for over 33 years in Australia. The program received overwhelmingly positive feedback from the community: "Invaluable course for all women! Interactive and enjoyable! World standard!" "Very practical, easy to follow with maximum impact in very limited time" "The team here worked with us beautifully. Friendly and fun, Thank you." "Excellent program, very well delivered."
