Collie PCYC is in the news again with more recognition from the local community. Today, the centre was notified of having been nominated for the 2019 Australia Day Community Group of the Year award. This award is in recognition of significant contributions to the quality of community life by a local group, and to promote national pride and community responsibility. This is a tremendous recognition for the work the centre does in their community for young people and children of all walks of life. And, there was also recognition for Collie PCYC volunteers ahead of International Volunteers' Day on 5 December. Three Collie PCYC volunteers were nominated for the Robinson - Hannan Volunteer of the Year award, at a recent dinner hosted by the Shire of Collie. Centre Manager Linda Gallagher said, "We are super proud of all our volunteers. This was the opportunity to celebrate what they mean to us and how valued they are." The nominees were:
Michael Cain (Boxing)
Michael has been coaching boxing for 15 years, with much of that time spent at the Collie PCYC, where his passion for boxing and teaching has shone through. Collie PCYC’s boxing program is partly run as a diversionary program for at risk youth and Michael does an amazing job at running the program, resulting in great changes in many of the kids who attend his classes.
