Collie kids step up for Clean Up Australia Day
Over 24 young people from Collie PCYC embraced the 2021 Clean Up Australia theme as they stepped up to clean up around their town.
They were joined by Collie Centre Manager Linda Gallagher and Youth Policing Officer Senior Constable Kahn Le Prevost-Sheperd. Even PCYC pooches Coco and Panda pitched in to help.
The young people aged between 7 and 16 years had been looking forward to Clean Up Australia Day after taking part in previous years and really enjoying it.
The Skate Park in Soldiers Park was chosen as the clean-up area because it is a place that young people use quite often. It’s also a central point for the community and the young people were keen to be seen to be doing something positive.
The group filled several bags of rubbish with the bulk of it being fast food packaging and plastic drink bottles. The bottles were saved and added to the Collie PCYC Cash for Can fundraiser. The most unusual piece of rubbish collected was a ROAD WORK AHEAD sign found in the Collie River.
“We are always extremely proud when our young people step up to this challenge and do their part to clean up the environment and their community,” said Centre Manager, Linda Gallagher. “They’re already looking forward to next year’s Clean Up Australia Day.”
