Healthy Food and Fun at Kensington PCYC

Published: August 21, 2018 12:00am
Youth at Kensington PCYC are embracing healthy eating thanks to a fun and interactive educational health and nutrition session run at the centre in collaboration with the Town of Victoria Park. The workshop took place on Friday 10 August during the Kensington PCYC Safe Space program attracting 26 young people, eager to try and taste new recipes. Local youth had a chance to experience activities including mixing smoothies using special blender bikes and making healthy burgers which young people and staff alike all enjoyed sampling. Kensington PCYC centre manager Amanda Dow commended the workshop, and was delighted to see so many youth attend and engage with healthy eating. “It was a fantastic session; the youth thoroughly enjoyed themselves and were all keen to try the recipes at home.” “We are extremely grateful to the Town of Victoria Park for their support.” The Kensington PCYC Safe Space program offers local youth and youth at risk a safe place to hang out after school and on the weekends, and features a number of activities from art workshops to movie nights. The program aims to increase the relationship between youth and the community, along with decreasing offending and anti-social behaviour.
