New President appointed to WA PCYC

Mr Geoffrey Stooke OAM CitWA was endorsed as the new President of the Federation of Western Australian Police and Community Youth Centres Inc. (WA PCYC) at the organisation’s Annual General Meeting held on Wednesday 7 November 2018. He succeeds outgoing President Dr Sue Gordon AM, who has provided distinguished service since 2012. Mr Stooke is the Managing Director of Standard Wool Investments Pty Ltd (previously Standard Wool Australia Pty Ltd). He has held the position since 1996. He has previously held senior positions in the fishing, food and resources industries and his early career was as a commissioned officer in the Australian Regular Army – this included service in Australia and overseas. He currently holds several directorships- a number as Chairperson. Previous directorships include Chairman of RugbyWA for 23 years, Director of the Australian Rugby Union for over 5 years, Director of the Australian Sports Commission for 3 years and Director of the Australian Wool Exchange for 9 years. Outside of work his main interests are sport related. He plays golf and tennis all year round and still plays grade rugby in the winter. He was a grinder on Kookaburra in the 1987 America’s Cup Defence. He is a recipient of the Medal of the Order of Australia, the Australian Sports Medal, the Centenary Medal and in 2006 was the WA Citizen of the Year in the category of Sport. Mr Stooke commended Dr Gordon on the legacy she has left for PCYC. “Dr Gordon has led the Board during a particularly challenging period. Thanks to her leadership, PCYC is now delivering a range of leading programs and activities which are empowering many children and young people right across the state”. Mr Stooke has been appointed to a three-year term.
