Rockingham PCYC raises funds for Warnbro Community High School

Published: December 17, 2018 12:00am
Rockingham PCYC Goals 4 Life students recently visited Warnbro Community High School to present a cheque as part of their Small Favours Community Project. Students were involved in the conceptualising including coming up with the program name Small Favours, and the execution of a community project where they raised funds in order to provide Warnbro Community High School extra funding to purchase school resources for students from disadvantaged families who in many cases are unable to provide their children with what’s needed to not only succeed at school but to have more confidence and not be ashamed of not having the same resources that their fellow students do. Tom Campbell (pictured on the right) an ex-student of Warnbro came up with the main concept which involved liaising with and booking a Bunnings Sausage Sizzle day and then of course planning the purchasing of food and then staffing and running the day. Tom himself was one of those students who often felt left out at school because he didn’t have some of the core resources he needed to be fully engaged in school. Tom believes this is a key factor in himself and other students for disengaging from school.

Rockingham PCYC continues to build relationships with local schools and working with them to improve opportunities for young people and keep them engaged in mainstream education. Of course when that cannot happen, programs like Goals 4 Life and our Weld to Life provide opportunities for students for whom mainstream education does not suit but who still require an approved alternative education program.
