Published: March 26, 2018 12:00am
Geraldton PCYC recently launched their Safe Space program, and have had a fantastic turnout, with over 342 youth attending during the last month. The Safe Space program’s aim is to help keep unsupervised young people off the streets on Thursday nights by offering a safe environment where they can get a healthy meal and enjoy new activities between 4pm and 10pm, after which they are taken home. During the programs four week period, week one saw 35 youth attend, which jumped to over 100 in weeks two, three and four. The program has had fantastic community support and is run in collaboration with WA Police, Geraldton Regional Aboriginal Medical Service (GRAMS), MEEDAC Aboriginal Corporation and the City of Greater Geraldton to help provide healthy meals, transportation and staff to support the program.
