WA Police have worked in partnership with the WA PCYC to provide old and unused vehicles, equipment and bicycles for young people to practice their mechanical trade skills. The WA PCYC Goals4Life courses and programs include an initiative to deliver mechanical automotive knowledge and practical skills, using real life training resources to deliver qualification and employment opportunities. An Excellent initiative The Goals4Life Automotive Certificate I course has proven to be an excellent initiative at Kensington and Midland PCYC Centres, with real employment prospects for trainees of the nationally recognised qualification. The centres have received about 12 vehicles from the WA Police, along with other workshop tools and equipment, used to develop automotive knowledge and practical skills for trainees. Ongoing support WA Police and WA PCYC see this as a long-term opportunity, which is part of a broader partnership that has also provided resources to other WA PCYC courses and programs. For example, the Full Throttle diversionary program at Gosnells PCYC Centre to which the WA Police Property Management Division have donated numerous bicycles to this program, which trainees have refurbished as a team-building activity, before giving them back to the community and the Goals4Life Leadership Certificate I course provides trainees with life skills such as problem solving, communication, workplace health and safety. These are just one of the many ways in which the partnership with WA Police has proven to deliver real and lasting benefits, not only to young people registered in Goals4Life courses and programs, but also to the wider community. These practical contributions create meaningful outcomes from otherwise unused vehicles and equipment. These resources allow WA PCYC trainers to demonstrate real and tangible learning outcomes that truly engage young people in courses and programs. This helps change lives, create future opportunities and build productive communities.
