Breaking records at PCYC Breakfast Club
Fremantle PCYC recorded their highest numbers of participants at their Breakfast Club in March, serving a total of 223 hot breakfasts and 186 packed lunched to young people before they attend school.
Thanks to the Fremantle Foundation and donors of Impact 100, Fremantle PCYC are able to provide an average of 200 meals to children every month.
Not only does this help to remove a barrier to learning when a child is hungry, the program also provides young people with a safe environment where they can take part in other personal development or recreational activities before school. Young people engaged in the Breakfast Club are then transported to school by PCYC, helping to increase attendance rates.
Centre Manager Nicky Duffy said “we have kids from 4 to 17 years old come to the program for a hot breakfast and a packed lunch. There is always lots of fun and laughter. It's a joyous way for PCYC staff, volunteers and especially the kids to start the day.”
