Calling all Collie's Ninja Warriors to PCYC
Starting on 7th October, Street Ninjas will be a new component of the safeSPACE after school program at Collie PCYC, adding another dimension to the already diverse range of activities available to young people between the age of 10 and 17 who are vulnerable and at risk. Street Ninjas is funded by the WA Police Crime Prevention fund.
Participants will learn how to tackle obstacles similar to ones in Australian Ninja Warrior and knowledge on strength and confidence building. They will also have the opportunity to compete in Ninja competitions across WA.
Collie is already running Street Gym/Free G as part of the centres activities. These programs incorporate exercises for the lower body and Street Ninjas will complement with exercises for working the upper body.
Existing gym equipment can be adapted to make obstacles for the young Ninjas to tackle and new equipment has been purchased with part of the grant, including a big monkey bars set, pole jump and an obstacle course.
The prospect of being able to train like a Ninja Warrior has already ignited the imagination of the young safeSPACE attendees who have started road testing the new equipment before the Street Ninja program starts at the beginning of Term 4.
Through the incorporation of Street Ninja into the range of safeSPACE activities already available, Collie hopes to attract even more at risk young people to the already hugely popular after school program.
safeSPACE participants have been keen to road test the Street Ninja equipment before the program begins in Term 4.
