Care packs welcomed by families in need
Following the delivery of Easter packs last month, essential food and care packs were delivered to children, young people, and their families in need across the state.
Locally sourced food packs varied from centre to centre, and contained staple food items such as bread, milk, cereal, meat, cheese, pasta, rice and spreads, and fresh fruit and vegetables.
Care packs were filled with essential items vital for good personal hygiene, such as toothpaste, toothbrushes, handwash, shampoo, washcloths, and soap. They also included craft activities for young people to do at home and protective behaviours packs thanks to WA Child Safety Services.
All packs were gratefully received by families across the state, with young people excited to see fresh fruit and a young mother brought to tears from the generosity.
David van Ooran, PCYC CEO said, “We exist to support the most vulnerable children and young people in the community. When we are unable to do this at our centres and in person, we will find other ways to reach those in need.”
Boxes were delivered to children and young people who would usually be enjoying fun activities and a healthy meal at their local PCYC.
The delivery of food and care packs formed stage two of the PCYC three-stage approach to continue to engage with children, young people, and their families during the COVID-19 period.
