Collie PCYC keeps kids tummies full

Collie PCYC kitchen has received a much-needed upgrade thanks to our supporter, Wespine.

The Wespine Community Grant has seen a commercial-sized oven, basin and wall unit installed at the Collie PCYC Centre which will enable staff to provide meals for children and young people participating in the safeSPACE Program.

Collie PCYC safeSPACE provides a safe environment for up to 300 local kids every month. Running each Wednesday afternoon and Friday night, safeSPACE is somewhere young people can feel at home, make friends and take part in recreational activities and personal development programs.

Collie PCYC Centre Manager, Linda Gallagher, said the oven is critical to the safeSPACE kitchen, where children and young people help staff to prepare and cook a healthy meal for all the kids that attend the Centre on Friday nights.

“Now with a bigger oven, we can make sure that every child that comes to our Friday night safeSPACE goes home with a full tummy!” said Ms Gallagher.

A spokesperson from Wespine Employee Community Donations Committee said they were impressed by the quality of applications submitted by community organisations which made the task of selecting projects to receive funding very difficult.

“After much deliberation, we are delighted to support Collie PCYC and provide an oven for their essential safeSPACE Program. Knowing that all the kids that come through the doors will be fed is great”, they concluded.

The safeSPACE Program is supported by the Department of Child Protection and Family Services and a number of local community organisations.
