More than just coffee

Published: December 05, 2019 12:00am

Thanks to their local coffee company, Leaf Bean Machine, young people from Fremantle PCYC had the opportunity to try out their coffee making skills with a short Barista training class.

The Leaf Bean Machine is committed to making a difference in their local community. The ‘Coffee for Classes’ initiative is a generous concept; for every class funded by customers, the Leaf Bean Machine matches it.

Luckily for us, PCYC was selected in November which enabled eight young people to attend the Barista class. The students learnt skills from basic espresso theory through to brewing the perfect espresso.

Leaf Bean Machine also kindly donated a coffee machine to Fremantle PCYC, which means the young people can put their new skills to the test serving quality coffee to the local community that visit the Centre.

Fremantle PCYC Manager Justine Marmion said “I’m so grateful for the Leaf Bean Machine giving this opportunity to the young people at Fremantle PCYC and for the kind donation. Sometimes something as simple as a day’s training can inspire young people to follow a career path or take up further training.”

The class was not only an opportunity for young people to learn how to make the perfect cup of coffee, but a chance for them to try something new, building their self-esteem and confidence.

So, if you’re in the area, make sure you pop by Fremantle PCYC and grab your favourite cup of coffee which will not only taste great, but support the fantastic work Fremantle PCYC does for young people and the local community.
