WA Labor Party announces $115K support for Bunbury PCYC
On 2nd March 2021, Donald Punch MLA, announced $115K support as a pre-election commitment to invest in a new bus for Bunbury PCYC.
A new bus will mean that Bunbury PCYC staff can collect children and take them home at the end of safeSPACE™ sessions as well as provide vital transport for PCYC Institute of Training students.
SafeSPACE™ provides a home away from home where disadvantaged children and young people at risk can relax, have fun and feel safe before school, after school and into the evening. A huge range of activities are offered at safeSPACE™ including sport, arts and crafts, cooking and personal development workshops.
Bunbury PCYC Institute of Training operates a highly successful Leadership course for children that are disengaged from traditional school.
Mr Punch stated, “I have seen first-hand the positive impact PCYC training and recreation programs are having on the lives of vulnerable young people in our region and I am confident any additional support we provide will enhance that impact.”
Mr Punch continued, “When young people have disengaged from school we need to provide alternate options to help them have successful lives and PCYC is doing an amazing job to make sure these young people have every opportunity to secure the training or the employment they want for their future.”
PCYC Chairperson, Geoff Stooke, noted, “Transport is one of the barriers to children and young people attending programs and activities at PCYC. This generous pre-election commitment will increase access to programs and activities for children that need it most.”
