$10,500 boost for tools of trade at Gosnells

Young people who are keen to learn about trades through PCYC Gosnells have received great support through a re-election pledge announced by Chris Tallentire MLA.

Mr Tallentire, the Member for Thornlie which takes in Gosnells PCYC, said a re-elected McGowan State Government would provide the funding to support the great work of PCYC in the local community.

Gosnells PCYC Centre Manager Alan Elliott said the funds would be extremely welcome and be directed towards improving the trades workshop at the centre which also houses the Full Throttle Bike Repair program.

Gosnells PCYC, in conjunction with local WA Police and training organisations specialising in trade skills, is aiming to increase participation in learning about trades such as electrical, carpentry, joinery and bricklaying. However, the training area at the centre needs upgrading with an improved power supply to enable the students to learn how to use more high powered equipment including air compressors and large power tools.

In the future, students and their trainers will also assist in developing the Gosnells centre and surrounds by completing small building projects while they undergo their training and work towards gaining future employment.

Mr Tallentire said: “Gosnells PCYC is a hub for activities that young people love. Be it the gymnastics, the boxing, fixing bikes or learning the basics of a trade, PCYC has so much to offer. I’m always thrilled to see the safe and respectful way participants at the PCYC interact with each other and the adults who are in attendance.”

Mr Elliott said: “This is going to be a win-win for everyone, for the kids and for our centre here at Gosnells and it’s going to be made possible thanks to our fantastic local community.
