$18m support for WA PCYC as a pre-election commitment

Published: January 06, 2021 12:00am

On 6th January 2021, the Premier Hon Mark McGowan MLA and Minister for Police, Michelle Roberts MLA, announced $18m as a pre-election commitment to support PCYC over the next 4 years.

Mr McGowan stated, “We all know prevention is better than cure, which is why my Government is committed to investing in proven programs that support those who need it and ensure they have a pathway to a positive future.”

“We know that many Western Australians face challenges and require additional support. This commitment will deliver ongoing support to vital community resources like our PCYCs and ensure that support is available for those who may find themselves experiencing a crisis.”

PCYC Chair, Mr Geoff Stooke stated, “The Premier’s announcement today, that a McGowan Government will provide $18m sustainability funding for the next 4 years, is an outstanding commitment and greatly appreciated. The certainty this provides will significantly help ensure that PCYC can continue to deliver on its key objectives, empowering Western Australian children and young people to reach their potential and stay on a positive life path.”

Mr Stooke continued, “Without this support, it is unlikely that PCYC could have continued to provide the necessary diversionary programs, alternative education, training opportunities and activities to support the most at risk and disadvantaged young people across WA.”

This new commitment represents an increase in funding from previous years and will enable PCYC to deliver vital programs and activities across the state. It also demonstrates the Government’s confidence in the work undertaken by one of WA’s iconic not-for-profit organisations.

PCYC continues to work closely with the WA Police and various other agencies and service providers. PCYC sincerely thanks the Premier, the Police Minister, the Police Commissioner and all others involved for their support to PCYC.
