A holiday to remember for Leonora kids

Published: February 23, 2022 2:21pm

Kalgoorlie PCYC partnered with Minara Resources, Centrecare, the Shire of Leonora and the WA Police Force to provide an incredible School Holiday Program for young people in the community of Leonora.

Staff from Kalgoorlie PCYC travelled over two hours to bring holiday fun to children and young people, including laser tag, nerf wars, dodgeball, sports, arts and crafts and cooking nights.

Over 60 children in the local community were eager to participate in the fun new activities and access recreational equipment that some had never had the opportunity of using before.

This free school holiday program solved a challenge many families face during the holidays, finding low cost or free activities to keep their children entertained.

Because the school holiday program was such a success, Kalgoorlie PCYC now teams up with Centrecare to visit Leonora monthly, to continue providing fun and engaging activities. This month children had the opportunity to try gymnastics, create their own Valentine’s Day arts and crafts and learn how to make pancakes.

Kalgoorlie PCYC Centre Manager, Julie Beeson said, “Our trips to Leonora are something our staff look forward to every month - we love seeing the smiles on children’s faces when we arrive.”

“We would like to thank Minara Resources and the Shire of Leonora for providing us with the opportunity to partner with them to help keep young people in their community active and engaged.”
