A partnership with purpose

Heading to Roebourne PCYC to participate in their Basketball Academy has become a weekly highlight for over 30 young people in Roebourne.

In partnership with Global Roaming, Roebourne PCYC established a Basketball Academy to deliver weekly sessions focusing on basketball skills, education and participation for young people in their community.

The basketball academy has provided young people with the opportunity to learn about a sport they are passionate about, while also keeping them active and entertained in a safe and supportive environment.

As well as learning the basics, they also learn basketball game rules, different ball handling skills, dribbling, game plays and more advance techniques to ensure they are progressing their skills each week.

The academy also serves as an opportunity for PCYC staff to connect with local young people at risk, using the sport as a bridge for difficult discussions, helping to break down barriers and build positive connections that last beyond each session.
