Gymnastics program first at Collie PCYC
Collie PCYC delivers specially designed gymnastics program for youth with physical and mental disabilities, thanks to $20,000 Mazda Foundation grant.
The project will provide for a minimum of 40 socially isolated youth aged 7 -10 years, with an identified disability, the opportunity to participate in a gymnastics program for a 40-week period.
Funding will cover the development of the program with Occupational Therapists, qualified coaches, equipment and travel. Collie PCYC will deliver the program at four local primary schools located in Collie.
The program aims to develop gross motor skills, smoothness in movement and core strength, foster cognitive development by teaching the difference between left and right and develop spatial awareness and hand-eye coordination.
Collie PCYC Centre Manager, Linda Gallagher welcomed the funding, as an opportunity to target a select group of young people.
“Our Gymnastics coaches are qualified to deliver such as wonderful program that aids in the physical development, and gives young people opportunity to be active and exercise” she concluded.
