NAIDOC Week at Fremantle PCYC

Published: November 26, 2020 12:00am

Fremantle PCYC hosted an awe-inspiring NAIDOC event where former PCYC member, Aaron Rule, returned to inspire the next generation of Indigenous children.

Aaron was six years old when he joined Fremantle PCYC. Keen to reconnect with PCYC he performed a mesmerising dance whilst his father Lesley played the didgeridoo, delighting dozens of local children.

Partnering with the City of Fremantle Toy Library, it was a formidable community event, where children wearing face paint learnt about the magic of bush tucker, painted Kalangas canvas prints and played traditional Aboriginal games.

There was also a Welcome to Country by Aunty Maree Taylor dedicated to children. Fremantle PCYC Centre manager Nicky Duffy said the event was extra special because of its focus on the children.

A huge thank you to Aaron and Lesley, the City of Fremantle Toy Library, and PCYC Youth Worker and proud Noongar woman, Jacinta Miller who planned the event.
