NAIDOC Week Celebrations!

Published: July 22, 2019 12:00am

Highlights from working with our partners

Bunbury PCYC joined with South West Aboriginal Medical Services (SWAMS) and Red Cross to deliver the ‘Old Ways, New Ways’ event which mixed culture and science through Aboriginal tool making. The event was followed by an action-packed Noongar ‘well-being and sports’ school holiday program.

Kensington PCYC was lucky to host some Bindi Bindi Dreaming Bush Tucker workshops – a truly special and memorable experience. Our staff were also invited to attend a NAIDOC Morning Tea with Sister Kate’s Home Kids Corporation hosted by the City of Canning.

Our PCYC Outreach Team were fortunate to be invited to the City of Swan NAIDOC celebration day at Midland Oval where they enjoyed live music, Aboriginal dance performances and bush tucker!

Highlights from around the state!

Geraldton - Our Geraldton safeSPACE girls (or budding artists!) created such beautiful canvas artwork that it was displayed at the Geraldton Aboriginal Family Law Services and Police NAIDOC Celebration! And the fun didn’t stop there. Our Geraldton boys and girls also travelled to Carnarvon to join in a family fun day before visiting Red Bluff campsite to spend time with local cultures.

Broome - Our staff and local kids joined the packed streets for the 2019 Kullarri NAIDOC Reconciliation Walk where the Broome community joined together to celebrate the opening of the Kullarri NAIDOC festival.

Kalgoorlie - Our local kids and staff had a lively start to their day joining in the colourful NAIDOC Week parade down the main street in Kalgoorlie. We also proudly hosted the Nintila 5 Minute Phone Film Festival, where the local community got to view shortlisted films. It was a great way to celebrate NAIDOC Week watching movies where at least half of the dialogue was in a Goldfields Aboriginal language.

Carnarvon – Our Family Fun Day was jam-packed with a bouncy castle, bungee run, hip hop dancing, crafts and face painting.

Albany – Local kids enjoyed our Naidoc themed disco.
