Northam Blue Light WA™ recognised for outstanding community contribution

Published: February 06, 2024 4:28pm

Congratulations to the Northam Blue Light WA™ Unit who received the prestigious 2024 Community Citizen of the Year Award.

The team has been recognised in the Active Citizen (group or event) category for their outstanding contribution to the community.

In just their first year as an established team, Northam’s Blue Light WA™ Unit has made a profound impact on the community by providing a safe and supervised environment for children and young people to have fun, organising fundraisers, discos, festivals, markets and tournaments.

Some of the most memorable moments for the team include the Winter Wonderland Disco, attracting over 200 children and young people.

Reflecting on his time as part of the team, Senior Constable Shayne Price remarked, “The thing I love most about Blue Light WA™ is the excitement and joy it brings, not just to young people but also adults”. Shayne often encounters local business owners eager to support Blue Light WA™ through donations because of their warm memories of past discos and other events. He is proud to be supporting the next generation of community members who will look back on Blue Light WA™ with fond memories.

In regional areas, children and young people often face a lack of social and recreational activities in safe environments. This award is a testament to the dedication of the Northam Blue Light WA™ team and the broader community in creating these opportunities for young people in their community, playing a pivotal role in their physical and mental well-being.

We look forward to seeing what the team brings in 2024!
