PCYC Boxers win Regional Championships

Published: November 25, 2021 12:31pm

PCYC won in more ways than one at the Regional Championship boxing event organised by Peacocks Boxing Gym, with part of the proceeds raised generously donated to Geraldton PCYC.

Jake Peacock from Peacocks Boxing has been involved with the Boxing Program at Geraldton PCYC for over 30 years, assisting PCYC to provide opportunities for local children as well as producing accomplished boxers.

Frauke and Mehdi are two young people from the Geraldton community who both trained at Geraldton PCYC with Jake as their coach. Cheers of encouragement filled the championship venue, as the local community watched them take home the winning titles in their division.

Geraldton PCYC Centre Manager, Talya Quinn said, “We couldn’t be more proud of Frauke and Mehdi for the months of dedication and hard work they put in to achieve their goals.”

The event was a huge success, bringing over 200 visitors to Geraldton as well as young boxers travelling from across the state to compete for the Regional Title.

Staff and PCYC participants volunteered their time to assist in the lead up to, and on the night of event, helping with the set-up, catering and at the canteen.

Talya said, “We would like to thank everyone who attended the event and helped to raise some much-needed funds for Geraldton PCYC.”

“The funds raised will go towards improving the boxing space at our Centre.”

Geraldton PCYC welcomes young people from any background and ability to enrol in boxing. “Boxing improves cardiovascular fitness, muscle condition and builds confidence and discipline”, said Talya.
