Fun for all at Fremantle’s Open Day

Published: January 25, 2021 12:00am

Fremantle PCYC held an open day showcasing the vast Centre and the range of programs and activities available for children and young people in the community.

The Open Day begun with a full circle moment, with a beautiful smoking ceremony being performed by Elder Rob, who had attended Fremantle PCYC as a young boy. Almost 350 members of the local community attended the event, with a variety of games and crafts set up by the Fremantle Toy Library for children and young people of all ages to enjoy. The Magic Dale magic show, Wasamba drumming workshop and free play in the gymnastics halls were some of the crowd favorites.

Two police officers attended the event via horseback, along with Acting Sargent Sam Monaco, Community Liaison Officer, who volunteered his time to help out on the day. Dr Brad Pettitt, Mayor of the City of Fremantle also attended the Open Day, thanking Centre Manager Nicky Duffy and PCYC CEO, David van Ooran for the work we do in the community.

Feedback from the day was overwhelmingly positive, with many parents thanking Fremantle PCYC for such a great family fun day. As well as fun on the day, the open day provided a chance for children and families to see what activities children and young people can do at Fremantle PCYC.

A big thank you to all the staff and especially to the amazing volunteers, Wendy Everett and Dave Gifford who offered their time to help out on the day.
