Baristas in-training!

Published: February 28, 2023 2:23pm

An essential life skill in Australia is knowing where to find, or in this case - make, a good cup of coffee!

A group of teenagers have been given the opportunity to learn the art of creating a perfect flat white and other hospitality skills as they undertake a Barista training course as part of Bunbury PCYC’s safeSISTAS™ program.

Bunbury PCYC partnered with Bunbury Coffee to deliver the Barista Coffee Training program to a group of 30 young people aged between 12 and 17. As part of the course, the girls and boys will learn how to brew coffee, steam milk, and create latte art.

Often the reason young people come to PCYC is to have fun with their friends in a safe environment. But, for us, what we love is seeing young people leave our programs or activities having found new talents and learnt new skills. In this case, the Barista course enables young people to learn a practical skill that they can add to their CV or use to apply for jobs.

Katie Penches, Bunbury PCYC Centre Manager, said, “We want to give our participants the best opportunities to secure employment. The Barista Coffee Training course helps our young people add valuable skills to their resume and gain the skills and confidence to apply for jobs in the hospitality sector.”

“All the young people enjoyed getting involved, and the local Police Officers loved the free coffee!”
