Friday night fever at Broome PCYC

Published: May 30, 2022 12:15pm

Fridays are now a highlight for young people in Broome thanks to Roller Disco’s at PCYC!

As the winner of the 2021 Heart Foundation Active Australia Innovation Challenge, Broome PCYC secured $10,000 in funding to encourage Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people between the ages of 10 to 18 to get active through weekly roller-skating sessions.

Roller-skating is fun for all ages so it’s a great way to bring the community together to help keep young people active and engaged.

The first Roller Disco was a huge success with over 50 children, young people and their families attending. Local Police Officers also showed their support, as well as the Shire of Broome providing dinner for those who attended.

Kids were dancing and skating all night long thanks to Broome PCYC’s Youth Worker, Patu Edwards and his disco tunes.

Now word has got out, we are seeing 80 to 90 children attending every Friday night!
