Three Bunbury PCYC Gymnasts were selected to represent Western Australia in Darwin for the Bigham Cup and Northern Territory Championships as part of the WA Gymnastics Country Team.

A big congratulations to Holly van Herk, Annabelle Behan and Tegan Pense. The gymnasts have dedicated years of their lives to training at PCYC, with Holly training at the Centre for over eight years and Annabelle and Tegan, for over six.

In order to be selected for the team, 39 PCYC gymnasts participated in the Western Australian Regional Championships at the State Gymnastics Centre in Leederville in July – with only the top six being chosen.

Additional entrants for the WA Gymnastics Country Team included Jenna Zekic, Lily Callison and Amy Steenkamp, who were chosen to be reserves, as well as Bunbury PCYC Senior Coach Sian Szowolski, who was selected as the coach for the competition.

Sian Szolkowski said, “We put a lot of effort into planning and practicing skills, so to see the payoff is really rewarding.”

“Throughout the weekend there was a lot of tough competition. Our Bunbury PCYC gymnasts competed to a very high standard and achieved their own personal best scores. It was an amazing experience and we were very proud to have had the chance to represent WA gymnastics.”

Showing grace and finesse throughout their routines, the WA Gymnastics Country Team achieved some incredible results, with the Level 6 team placing 2nd on beam and 3rd on floor and the Level 7 team placing 3rd on beam.
