On Thursday 2nd September 2021, the Premier Hon Mark McGowan MLA officially opened the new Carnarvon PCYC Centre in the presence of the Minister of Police, Hon Paul Papalia MLA, Commissioner of Police, Mr Chris Dawson APM, other dignitaries and local stakeholders.

Thanks to the McGowan State Government $1.05m funding and support from the Department of Education for providing the facility, the new PCYC Centre will enable more programs and activities for the local community in a modern environment.

Premier, Mark McGowan stated, “PCYC has a proud history of delivering programs that positively engage young people and encourage them to participate in productive activities. That’s why my Government has invested heavily in early intervention programs like PCYC, particularly in regional communities.”

PCYC Chairperson, Geoff Stooke, noted “We are extremely grateful for the on-going support of the McGowan State Government and the WA Police Force. PCYC has a long history in Carnarvon, supporting the community since 1992 and this vital redevelopment will mean we can continue to positively impact the lives of children and young people in Carnarvon for many years to come.”

The funding has enabled major renovation of the former Carnarvon Senior High School, improving the environment for the hundreds of children and young people that attend Carnarvon PCYC every week. The renovations included a new fitness gym, new automotive workshop, new commercial kitchen, a dedicated arts and crafts building, and upgraded air conditioning.

Carnarvon PCYC is a much-needed part of the community, being the only indoor facility that delivers a wide variety of recreational activities and programs for children and young people, including PCYC’s core diversionary program safeSPACE™ and Institute of Training courses.

PCYC has a proud history of delivering programs that positively engage young people and encourage them to participate in productive activities.
