PCYC is delighted to receive strong support from the McGowan Government through a new $11.3 million grant in the 2019-20 State Budget. Premier Mark McGowan and Police Minister Michelle Roberts announced the funding at Gosnells PCYC on 28 April 2019. They said the $11.3 million would support PCYC activities across Western Australia including the establishment of a new PCYC in Kununurra, expansion of Carnarvon PCYC and $1.3million towards a major, long-term redevelopment of Broome PCYC. The total funding amount includes not only support for new services in Kununurra and enhanced services in Carnarvon and Broome, but also includes $7million towards existing PCYC operating costs throughout the State. In addition to the substantial financial support, there will be a renewed and stronger partnership between PCYC and the WA Police to be developed in consultation with the Commissioner of Police. PCYC President Geoffrey Stooke OAM welcomed the new partnership with the State Government. “This is a great vote of confidence in our organisation and everyone involved with PCYC including all our staff, volunteers and supporters right across the State are entitled to feel very proud,” Mr Stooke said. “PCYC has achieved a great deal in our almost 80-year history and now is certainly the right time to be building on those achievements because the number of children and young people in need of opportunities to take part in healthy and safe recreational programs is increasing. “We look forward to working with the WA Police, local communities and most importantly the young people in metropolitan Perth and throughout regional WA. “Through this new partnership we will work together to reduce crime and offending by young people by engaging them in healthy and positive activities. “It’s a win-win for the WA community and for young people themselves.” Read the full statement by the Premier and the Minister for Police.
