Kalgoorlie PCYC proudly embraced the 2022 NAIDOC Week theme, ‘Get Up! Stand Up! Show Up!’, kicking off their week-long NAIDOC celebrations by attending the City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder NAIDOC Week Opening Ceremony Parade.

During the parade, children and young people from Kalgoorlie PCYC proudly displayed the banner they had worked on during their safeSPACE™ workshop alongside Commissioner for Children and Young People, Jacqueline McGowan-Jones and PCYC Youth Worker, Shannon Abraham.

The celebrations continued with a delivery of NAIDOC biscuits from Ali Kent MLA, Member for Kalgoorlie, but the highlight of the week for young people in the community was Kalgoorlie PCYC’s NAIDOC Disco, hosted in partnership with Centrecare and the Sandalwood Family Centre.

Over 150 children and young people and their families came to celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples at the disco, enjoying various NAIDOC crafts and activities before they danced the afternoon away.

Police Officers from the Goldfields-Esperance District also joined in the fun, engaging with children through various games. By the end of the night kids were lining up to see who could beat Youth Police Officer, Brad Snashall on the Foosball Table!
