Over 20 young people in Northam are ready to kick start their career in the construction industry after passing their White Card course.

The course formed part of PCYC’s Stepping Stones Program, an alternative education program for young people who for a variety of reasons are not attending school.

The program is designed to improve student’s basic numeracy and literacy as well as teaching young people basic life skills to improve self-confidence and reignite an interest in learning.

With an increase in Stepping Stones students expressing an interest in working in construction and knowing that the WA White Card is a mandatory requirement for anyone who wants to work in the construction industry, Northam PCYC Centre Manager, Jane Atterby, organised for Central Regional TAFE to run a White Card Course at the Centre.

The course benefited the whole community with young people from Northam PCYC Stepping Stones, Northam Senior High School, Clontarf and St Joseph’s High School attending.
