PCYC connects with students at SkillsWest Careers and Employment Expo

Designed to resonate with teenagers, the catch phrase ‘Struggling with Traditional School? Stranger Things Have Happened…’ was the headline for PCYC’s Institute of Training stand at the SkillsWest Careers and Employment Exhibition.

"This is the coolest thing I've seen!" and "Struggling with School? This is the place for me!" were some students reactions.

Taking inspiration from the Netflix series, ‘Stranger Things’, the stand helped young people who are struggling with traditional school realise there are other pathways.

PCYC understands that for many reasons, some young people need alternative learning options to traditional school. Through practical courses, the PCYC Institute of Training provides young people with the skills and confidence they need to progress to further education, training, or employment or to transition back to a school environment.

Hundreds of students at the exhibition flocked to the stand to see if they could reach the ‘Upside Down’ with a beanbag toss or to make their own ‘Friends don’t lie’ friendship bracelets.

Parents also loved the Stranger Things inspired stand, with one parent saying "Can I just say, as a parent this is a fantastic idea and something so many kids can relate to."

PCYC Trainers and staff took turns over the three-day exhibition to meet and greet hundreds of young people, as well as Teachers and referrers, providing an insight into the different courses available through PCYC’s Institute of Training.

Some young people were even lucky enough to enough to encounter a Demogorgon (PCYC staff in disguise) while exploring the Exhibition!
